Exhibition Poster

The layout on this poster is very simple, it has the photograph in the middle, the title at the top and the rest of the information below. I like how the whole poster is black and white apart from certain words that are important. I think this makes it very eye catching and this also makes the important information stand out. The colour that is on the poster is also very balanced. This poster represents the exhibition well by the title standing out and showing you which photographers work it is that is being exhibited. Also the photo is one of his well known images. This is a good photograph to use on the poster because it is a well known celebrity who people look up to, another resin its a good photo is because of its composition and the fact she looks like she's gazing write at you, to the viewers this is visually appealing. It is obvious that the designer has put a lot of thought into it. On the poster some of the text is larger then others, it is obvious that the designer has done this on purpose, the larger text is the most important it draw the people to the poster its normally the title, date, where it is held and the cost. The smaller text is normally about websites and stuff also sponsors.

This poster is very simple but also not at the same time. The designer has used two of the images and sandwiched the title in between them both and then added the extra information to the bottom. I like the colours he has used in this he has used a black background with red and white writing. I think he may have used the red writing as the title because it makes it stand out as the rest of the poster is in black and white. I think they have done the other text in white and a lot smaller for it still to stand out but for the people looking at the poster to maybe think oh i wonder what that says and get closer to it. I think the poster relates to the exhibition well because the designer has included a image from each of the photographers. The images are quite weird so that sort of makes you want to see more they're not the type of standard portraits you see.

First attempt at poster.

This was my first attempt at the poster. I added a image I might potentially be using, then I added a crystallize effect to the image so the people can't see what the actual image looks like. I added the names down the left hand side and the picture on the right so then it was balanced. There was a lot of space under and about the photo so it didn't look quite balanced so I added the title on top and the date and the place below. I did everything in black and white and the picture in color so people would be attracted to it. When I was adding the text I thought a lot about what font I was doing it I didn't want it to be a font people couldn't read so I went with 'Geneva'. I then dragged a picture of their logo onto the image and made it the size I wanted it. I think I have challenged the perspective of this poster by distorting the image so they're not to sure what its actually about and it makes them think about it.

Second attempt at poster.

This was my second attempt at the poster. I didn't like the fact the image was surrounded with writing I think it needed to be more isolated, this is why I have placed everything how I have. I didn't want the image to be really obvious so I cut certain bits out to create loads of boxes with a little bit of the photo in it. I have used the same font as last time apart from on the title I have made it bold so it stand out, so it will catch peoples eye. I didn't think it worked listing the names so I decided to just put them in a paragraph and I think it worked a lot better it filled the space more so there was less gaps. I added the logo in the same place. I think this challenges the perspective because it will make people wonder about the image and isn't obvious as I could have cut out a important part of it.

Third attempt at poster.

The first attempt on my final poster I decided to do it all black and white instead of the important information. At first I chose green then I changed my mind.

This was my second attempt at my final poster. I didn't really like the way that the poster was portrait so I decided to do it landscape instead. I liked that in my last poster the image was on its own so i decided to do that again on the left side. I have added the fresco effect on the image to make it look more like a painting and it would make you think about what is install in the actual exhibition. I thought if everything was in black and white and the main information in a bold colour to draw peoples attention in.

Modern Society

Cinderella:
I am basing this line of work on divorce and relationships. So therefore I have been looking up some statistics for this field. I have found out that 40-50% of people get divorced. It is said that 1 in 5 people cheat when in a relationship. Estimating that 44% of men and 36% of women who are married have been unfaithful at some point.

Frozen:
I am basing this line of work on family issues. So i have been researching how many families have issues. I haven't found a certain website that talks about the figures but from what i have read near enough every family has their issues. Whether it be them hating each other, money, food, clean water or illness etc.

Alice in Wonderland:
I am basing this work on drugs and the effects it can have. Because of this i have looked into some research about it. It is said that in america alone there is about 9.4% of there population that abuse them.

Pocahontas:

I am basing this work on social media and that it isn't just bumping into someone and falling
in love like disney tell us it is. We rely a lot on social media and technology to get to know the people we fall in love with. I have done some research on this and i have found out that, some 22% of 25-34 year olds and 17% of 35-44 year olds have used an online dating site or mobile dating app. 8% of 45-54 year olds and 10% of 18-24 year olds are online daters. This shows how much has changed through the years.

Project Plan

Fairytales

The Photograph
For my photograph I'm going to take a series of models and make them get into costumes to do with Disney charters. But there is a twist, I am not going to use the traditional makeup or clothing I'm going to make it a lot more modern. For example if I was to take cinderella and the prince instead of picturing the shoe on a stair case or something it would be her taking it off because she couldn't walk in it or something. I think this is challenging the perspective by taking something so traditional and changing it. Its sort of like making it a comedy version but still dreamy. I am going to base the photographs on the Disney films:
  • Cinderella
  • Pocahontas
  • Alice in Wonderland
  • Frozen
The models I am using are mainly acting and musical theatre students. Im going to take my models to different places to take the photographs. Depending on the story and the scenes I come up with i will go to different places, but for all of them I am going to go into the studio or theatre and use a smoke machine to create a more dreamy effect. The photos in the studio would be more like advertising photographs. For some like cinderella I am going to go into a council estate as if cinderella has just broke up with someone and everything is wrong with her like then she comes across this boy that she ends up falling in love with but he also has connections and isn't just any boy.  Alice in wonderland will be trying to show a message about abusing drugs but in a comedy sort of way. Pocahontas I'm not sure what story to do with that yet. And frozen instead of the sisters loving each other them hating each other. I am going to hopefully use a ISO 100, aperture of around 4 and the shutter speed will vary. I am buying the costumes from charity shops and borrowing things off people. I am going to try and keep my budget at about £30. The makeup os going to be quite abstract like from below. I have been influenced by Rankin to do the over the top big makeup. The whole work is based on the photographer Annie Leibovitz and her work for disney. The places I'm going to take the photos include:
  • Woods
  • Studio
  • A council estate
  • bar
  • field
I am going to need to bring certain equipment including a tripod, extra batteries, extra memory card and my models. I am going to be using various props for my shoots for example:
Cinderella I'm going to be using shoes and probably a bag.
Frozen I'm not going to use any props from what i know.
Alice in wonderland I'm going to use a deck of cards, dice and a lamp tern with a candle thing. And for Pocahontas i don't think I'm going to use any. The message I'm going to try portray is that not everything ends with a happy ending.

The charity shops.

My target audience for this is young adults and even maybe adults with problems. I am trying to get a point across through all of the pictures and through princesses. I used princesses because everyone looks up to them and if they saw a poster relating to issues within their lives it might potentially make them want to sort it out. I can see these images being made into awareness posters or magazines trying to influence people to see to the problems they have. They could be used for a charity or something like that. If I got employed doing something like this it could be good money because if people see you're work about they might ask you to do things like it etc.
